Quality Work From Experienced Professionals

Air Systems Balancing and Testing Service Inc., established in 1969, has a strong history of accurately completing projects on time. Our loyal customers include several Fortune 500 corporations. The work we do is certified by the National Environmental Balancing Bureau (NEBB) and the Testing Adjusting and Balancing Bureau (TABB) and is guaranteed by them. NEBB and TABB's strict membership requirements ensure that we possess the applied knowledge, calibrated instrumentation, and extensive field experience to test and balance all system components for optimal performance and efficiency. We also adhere to all the standards of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and the guidelines set by the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors' National Association (SMACNA). We are active members in all four organizations.

Air Systems Balancing is owned by Mark Kukla and Jeffrey Ellis. Both owners actively pursue Total Quality Management (TQM) continuous improvement goals. This assures a first class job every time. We are an independent testing and balancing firm which means we are not controlled or influenced by any other company.

All our technicians have completed a minimum of four years of training and possess all the necessary skills and knowledge to complete complicated projects. The measuring instruments they use are the best available and are verified for calibration on a regular basis.

Certified Testing and Balancing, Air and Hydronic

Environmental systems are designed to provide a proper balance of air movement, temperature and humidity to create a comfortable and healthy indoor environment. In order for these systems to perform as designed, testing and balancing is needed. Without proper TAB (testing, adjusting and balancing), an environmental system can rarely meet all the objectives set by the design engineer. Research has proven that proper TAB will improve HVAC performance in terms of comfort and health, reduce maintenance costs by uncovering potential problems and provide 5 to 15% savings in energy costs.

Building Systems Commissioning

Building Systems Commissioning (BSC) is a disciplined procedure designed to provide a building owner with a completed building operating as designed and specified. Its intent is to furnish a building owner with a high degree of assurance that equipment and systems have been installed in the prescribed manner and will operate according to the performance guidelines. Air Systems Balancing is a NEBB Certified Commissioning Administrator and is prepared to offer a full range of Commissioning services. We are also members of the Building Commissioning Association (BCA).

Under the commissioning process, a single source, individual agent, or organization has contractual responsibility to coordinate tests, verify and report on the operational condition, capability and performance of the building’s major operating systems included in the commissioning scope. Building Systems Commissioning normally includes providing effective training for the building operating and maintenance personnel. The ultimate range of commissioning can be applied to the total building including all components required for its operation.

Objectives

Advantages

Properly commissioned building systems provide the following advantages:

System Audits and Analysis

When retrofitting mechanical systems, engineers can utilize the data collected by our technicians. By documenting existing systems, we provide valuable information that uncovers pre-existing conditions. The design process is therefore more precise and economical.

Building owners can also benefit from the HVAC system troubleshooting we perform. Our technicians can solve total building system problems, not just air handling unit situations.

Cleanroom Performance Testing (CPT)

Cleanroom Performance Testing is the process of measuring and recording cleanroom conditions and resolving all non-conforming areas in new and existing facilities. These measurements can include airflow velocity and uniformity tests, HEPA filter installation leak tests, room particle count tests and enclosure pressurization tests, among others. Air Systems Balancing possesses the skill to work through the testing process and provide a detailed analysis at the project’s completion. Air Systems Balancing follows International Standards such as ISO 14644-1 and ISO 14644-2 in order to assure proper compliance. We are members of the Institute of Environmental Sciences and Technology (IEST).

Indoor Air Quality

In this day and age building occupants are much more educated about IAQ. They are more demanding than just a few years ago. Even minor temperature and humidity swings can lead to complaints. Lack of proper ventilation can lead to fatigue, lost employee productivity and increases in the number of sick days.

Air Systems Balancing technicians set the required air volumes at all points of the system to assure that building occupants are not only comfortable, but breathing the proper amount of fresh outside air.

Annual and Periodic Testing

OSHA requires annual testing of laboratory fume hoods. Air Systems Balancing tests the face velocity at multiple points to determine if the fume hood is working as intended. If it is not, we take the steps necessary to help resolve the problem. Air Systems Balancing can test and balance any kind of exhaust system, including: paint spray booths and dust collection systems.

Hospital isolation rooms, operating rooms and nuclear imaging rooms should be tested on a scheduled basis to verify the required air changes per hour and room pressurization. Air Systems Balancing performs this work for several hospitals to help protect public health.

Duct Leakage and Pressure Testing

Air Systems Balancing has the equipment and experience to test for duct leakage. We can test to very low loss systems at high pressures, such as for a process.

Duct and Coil Cleaning

Air Systems Balancing partners with duct cleaning contractors to provide our customers with a healthy, efficient system free of contaminants. We verify that the systems are indeed at the original design conditions.
