.jpg) | | Chuck Corbett | After more than 14 years as SMACNA’s national labor relations spokesman, Charles “Chuck” Corbett is retiring effective Feb. 28, 2005.
As SMACNA’s executive director of labor relations, his soft-spoken, statesmanlike manner earned him the respect of not only the SMACNA membership, but also the Sheet Metal Workers’ International Association (SMWIA). He received a standing ovation at both the SMACNA and SMWIA annual meetings where both groups expressed their appreciation and admiration for the outstanding job he has done on behalf of the unionized sector of the sheet metal industry.
His service to SMACNA includes the management co-chairman of the National Joint Adjustment Board and chairman of the SMACNA Labor Committee. Under his direction SMACNA pursued a working partnership with its labor union to increase market share for SMACNA members. A determined advocate of reaching out to labor, Chuck expressed a preference for sitting around the table rather than across the table in the traditional bargaining stance.
Prior to coming to national SMACNA, Chuck was executive director of the Central Georgia Sheet Metal Contractors’ Association in Atlanta for 13 years.
A retired Army Colonel, Chuck has negotiated defense treaties with Canada, South America and Caribbean countries. He has also represented the Joint Chiefs of Staff on the National Security Council and other interdepartmental agencies.
He and his wife Kay will continue to reside in their home in Clifton, Va.
