SMACNA member Greg Scotto, of Pacific Heating and Sheet Metal, Pittsburg, Calif., recently was selected as one of the subcontractors on ABC’s “Extreme Makeover, Home Edition” show. The project involved demolishing a 1,200-square-foot-home and replacing it with a 3,800-square-foot-structure. Extensive modifications were needed because one of the homeowner’s children suffers from a rare disorder that lowers the immune system.
As part of the home’s makeover, it was made mold resistant and the heating and ventilation system had HEPA filters installed to make the air 99.9 percent pure, similar to a hospital. In addition, the walls had mold guard and water proofing and the windows received a UV treatment. Pacific Heating and Sheet Metal volunteered all of the HVAC labor and materials for this project.
This edition of “Extreme Makeover, Home Edition” aired on Jan. 23, 2005 on ABC. This is the first time this home improvement series totally demolished a home and built a new one in its place in just six days.
