The first of two endowed scholarships were recently donated to the College of Fellows in the name of J.B. Rodgers.
The scholarships, $40,000 each, will be awarded to family members of Arizona SMACNA contractors and their employees using the standard qualification process established by the College of Fellows.
Other SMACNA chapters and contractors may want to consider using the SMACNA College of Fellows Endowed Scholarship Program to administer their local scholarship. The College of Fellows handles the paperwork and accounting, while the donor is recognized for their generosity and is offered several opportunities to customize the scholarship. Those include: - Naming of the Scholarship – The donor may select the name to be used in connection with the scholarship. An example could be “The John Doe Scholarship provided through the generous support of an individual, firm or chapter of SMACNA.”
- Eligibility – The standard eligibility requirements for College of Fellows scholarships would be applied to endowed scholarships. In addition, donors may establish other reasonable criteria, consistent with Internal Revenue Code requirements, for eligibility for a particular endowed scholarship. Donors may also stipulate a scholarship be awarded to an applicant from a specific geographic area.
An endowed scholarship may be established with a donation of $40,000 to the College of Fellows. As administrator of the scholarship, the College screens applicants, manages award donations and verifies that recipients continue to meet eligibility requirements. Each endowed scholarship awards a minimum of $2,000 per year over a four-year period.
