SMACNA presents a series of three webinars on how to construct HVAC rectangular and round duct for compliance to SMACNA’s “HVAC Duct Construction Standards—Metal and Flexible” manual (third edition) on April 21, May 6, and May 19, each at 11:00 a.m. (EDT). Led by SMACNA’s technical staff, these 60-minute webinars are open to both SMACNA members and nonmembers.
To sign up, visit the Education section of the SMACNA Web site. Participants will earn $50 in savings if they sign up for all three webinars in this series. Registration for all three is $235 for members and $385 for nonmembers. One Internet computer registration fee allows unlimited participants at the same site. For each separate webinar, registration is $95 for members and $145 for nonmembers.
Estimators, fabricators, field personnel, designers, engineers, inspectors, and code officials alike will gain a solid understanding of how to construct duct in a resource-efficient and sustainable manner compliant with SMACNA’s HVAC Duct Construction Standard.
HVAC DCS 101 – “Rectangular Duct External Reinforcement” – April 21
This webinar will cover basic definitions used to properly describe rectangular duct, limits and proper application of various joints and seams, and how to use SMACNA’s standard to determine proper construction options.
Construction options to be discussed will include how to select the proper gage and the proper external reinforcement (angle). This presentation will cover duct up to 120 inches by 120 inches and address positive pressure and negative pressure applications.
HVAC DCS 102 – “Rectangular Duct Tie Rods, New Tables (TDC/TDF), and Rectangular Duct Over 120 Inches” – May 6
This presentation will cover how to properly determine tie rod options for rectangular duct, positive pressure and negative pressure options, and the effects of using heavier gages on tie rod choices.
The webinar will also cover how to use the new tables in the “HVAC Duct Construction Standards—Metal and Flexible” manual (third edition) for T-25a/T-25b (TDC/TDF) flange connections, how to properly convert from steel construction to aluminum construction, how to fabricate “large” rectangular (more than 120 inches), how to properly install fiberglass duct liner and how to fabricate double-walled duct.
HVAC DCS 103 – “Round and Oval Duct, Hangers, and Casing Construction” – May 19
This presentation will cover round and oval ducts including the basic definitions used for round and flat-oval duct, limits and proper application of various joints and seams, use of the “HVAC Duct Construction Standards—Metal and Flexible” (third edition) to determine proper construction for spiral duct and longitudinal seam duct. Examples will cover determining the proper gage and the proper reinforcement. Positive and negative pressure construction options are explained. Participants will also learn how to select the proper components for duct hangers. Casing construction will also be addressed.
