Reed Construction Data (RCD) announced today (Sept. 19) that the year-to-date value of construction starts through August 2007, excluding residential contracts, totaled $208.243 billion, 18.6% higher than in 2006 and approximately the same as in July. August was the first starts report that included a full month of the negative spillover impact from the collapse of the residential subprime mortgage market.

At its annual conference in New York in July 2007, the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) announced a seven-point energy savings challenge for its more than 16,500 members. The challenge calls for BOMA members to decrease energy consumption in existing buildings by 30% across their portfolios by 2012 and benchmark every building's energy performance and water usage at least once a year using the Energy Star benchmarking tool.
