Ron Palmerick
Historically, Maui, Hawaii has been a favorite convention site for SMACNA members. This year proved no different with more than 1,400 people attending the association’s 65th annual convention Oct. 19–23.

The convention combined a mix of educational sessions, business, and entertainment. Closing out the convention was the exciting rock band, Huey Lewis and The News.

The Contractor of the Year award went to former SMACNA President Keith Wilson, Albuquerque, N.M., for his dedication to promoting partnerships between labor and management and his vision for the future. The award is presented annually in memory of SNIPS magazine founder Ed Carter and his son Nick Carter, magazine publisher and editor.
