An initiative to boost construction productivity is at work for the first time in metro St. Louis, Mo. The PACT (Productivity and Commitment Together) agreement was signed by the more than 20 labor unions and 20 trade associations involved with the construction of the new $3 million Kemp Auto Museum in Chesterfield, Mo. The SMACNA-St. Louis Chapter and SMWIA Local 36 are among the groups endorsing PACT.
After three years of development and fine-tuning the Whole Building Design Guide has become a tremendously popular site. SMACNA was one of the first national organizations to provide resource information on the Whole Building Design Guide and consequently visits to the pages produced by SMACNA have increased substantially.
An independent research study conducted by the University of Missouri at Kansas City indicates that repeal of the prevailing wage statute in Missouri would not save dollars on construction costs and would result in a negative economic impact on the state’s families and taxpayers as well as the state and regional economies.
If you’re planning on attending your first SMACNA convention, you’re in good company. A large number of your fellow contractors also have decided to make SMACNA’s 61st convention in Maui their first. But just a warning, SMACNA’s conventions can be habit forming. We have people who have 20 or more under their belts.
Safety awards are a great way to get your firm well-deserved recognition. SMACNA is currently recognizing those member firms with outstanding safety records. Safety data and must be submitted by Friday, July 30.
