In a recent letter to the House of Representatives, SMACNA expressed its strong opposition to the amendment expected from Rep. Gosar (#115-111) to repeal the current method of determining and enforcing the Davis-Bacon Act prevailing wage coverage as part of the debate on H.R. 2810, The National Defense Authorization Act. By rejecting the amendment offered by Rep. Gosar (R-AZ), SMACNA feels the House will speak in a strong bipartisan voice to support common sense economics as well as construction quality and productivity. It is the association's belief that Rep. Gosar is attempting to add a “killer” Davis-Bacon prevailing wage amendment during debate on H.R. 2810; it is important that Rep. Gosar’s proposal be soundly defeated. SMACNA asked that House members join the group of bipartisan members expected to oppose the Gosar amendment and express their support for prevailing wages, skilled training programs and benefit standards as the best way to serve construction quality, productivity and safety for all public projects.
