The 2021 SMACNA Annual Convention is being held in person October 24-27, 2021 in Maui, Hawaii. This year will be different in many respects, yet we will find comfort in the high-quality networking and educational experience members have come to expect. Almost all differences experienced this year will be a result of a higher focus on safety in accordance with hotel, local and state mandated policies. Many of the safety impacts are outlined in the FAQ below which all members are highly encouraged to read.

FAQ

Due to capacity restrictions mandated by the State of Hawaii and Maui County, SMACNA has restructured its Annual Convention schedule to accommodate the maximum permissible number of participants under these mandates.

  • Educational sessions will be in a general session format. The traditional final night dinner and show will convert to a reception-style event.
  • Capacity restrictions have eased; therefore, Spouse registrants are now welcome at all SMACNA events.

If you have any questions regarding the restructured schedule, or the Convention in general, please contact the SMACNA Meetings Department at meetings@smacna.org

If you plan to spend a significant amount of time off-property, SMACNA strongly recommends you arrange for a rental car, as this is the most reliable form of transportation on the island. Please note that rental cars are limited, so we suggest booking your reservation as soon as possible to ensure availability. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, Uber and Lyft are not currently reliably available. Taxis are extremely limited, with the typical wait time approximately 30 minutes to an hour. To ensure you arrive on time to your destination, taxis should be booked at least 24 hours in advance.

Please also note that public transportation is currently running at 50% capacity, as of September 15, 2021.

For the most up-to-date information on Maui County, please check the Maui County website, as well as Maui Strong Travel website.

Please note all restaurants are limited due to current capacity restrictions mandated by the State of Hawaii and Maui County; therefore, any outing, be it small or large, will be very difficult to secure at the last minute. We strongly suggest making dinner reservations as early as possible.

  • As of September 15, 2021, bars and restaurants may operate at 50% indoor capacity provided they ensure that all customers 12 years of age and older are fully vaccinated. Non-vaccinated patrons may be served in outdoor dining spaces only, or by take-out or drive through. The number of persons at one table or in a group shall be no more than 8. Seating is arranged so that six (6) feet of separation is maintained between tables. Outdoor occupancy will be limited by physical distancing capacities between separate groups.

Yes, spouse registrants are welcome at all SMACNA Convention events.

Children can accompany you on the trip, but due to capacity restrictions mandated by the State of Hawaii and Maui County, children will not be permitted at SMACNA sanctioned events.  Babysitting services are available through the hotels. Should you have any questions regarding these services, please reach out to meetings@smacna.org.
