Institutional Building Growth Led February Construction Market Index

According to the Dodge Momentum Index February industrial building growth rose 8.2%, while commercial building declined 4.2%. The report indicated that a large number of state and local bonds for schools and other institutional buildings over the past few election cycles continue to fuel industrial construction.

The report indicated that a large number of state and local bonds for schools and other institutional buildings over the past few election cycles continue to fuel construction.

Regarding commercial construction, that component declined for two consecutive months and commercial building construction growth could slow further due to rising vacancy rates for offices and warehouses.

The Dodge Momentum Index is a monthly measure of the first (or initial) report for nonresidential building projects in planning, which have been shown to lead construction spending for nonresidential buildings by a full year. Read more...
