Board elects Executive Committee and new Vice President

Angie 002At the SMACNA Board of Directors meeting in July, the following officers were elected to terms beginning Oct. 19, 2016: President Joseph R. Lansdell, president of Poynter Sheet Metal Inc., Greenwood, Ind.; President-Elect Jack Knox, president of R.F. Knox Company Inc., Smyrna, Ga.; Secretary/Treasurer Nathan Dills, president of ACP Sheet Metal Co. Inc., Oklahoma City, Okla.; Vice President Angela Simon, president of Western Allied Mechanical, Menlo Park, Calif.; and Immediate Past President Guy Gast, president of The Waldinger Corp­., Des Moines, Iowa.

Introducing Angela Simon, New SMACNA Vice President

Angela M. Simon, PE, president of Western Allied Mechanical, Menlo Park, Calif., was elected to serve as vice president. She has been actively involved in SMACNA leadership for years. A member of SMACNA’s Board of Directors from 2007 to 2011, she was the first woman to serve on the Board.

“I feel this will be a great opportunity for me to increase my contributions to SMACNA and the sheet metal industry, which has provided me with so much support throughout my years in this business,” said Ms. Simon.

Ms. Simon is currently co-chair of the Steering Council for Women in Construction Leadership. She has served as a SMACN-IFUS trustee, chair of the HVAC Contractors Council Steering Committee, and chair of the Products and Programs Coordinating Committee. She has also been a member of the Director Nominating Committee and the Budget and Finance Committee.  In 2013, she was inducted into SMACNA’s distinguished College of Fellows.

Her service to SMACNA includes speaking at the labor/management Partners in Progress conference and membership on the Strategic Planning Task Force, High Performing Contractor Task Force, Effective Presentations Task Force, and the Bid Specifications Task Force.

Ms. Simon and her husband Michael are Summit Circle level contributors to the New Horizons Foundation.

She was the first woman to serve as president of the Bay Area SMACNA Chapter. She served in all the officer roles and on the Board of Directors. She also was a trustee of the Bay Area SMACNA Industry Promotion Fund and on the former San Mateo SMACNA chapter Board of Directors. She has been a member of ASHRAE since 1984.

Ms. Simon joined Western Allied Mechanical as a project manager in 1987. She graduated from California Polytechnic State University in 1986 with a degree in mechanical engineering and is a registered professional engineer in California. She and her husband Michael have two college-age sons, Alex and Ben, of whom they are very proud.
