At the SMACNA Board of Directors meeting in July, the following officers were elected to terms beginning Oct. 25, 2017: President Jack Knox, president of R.F. Knox Company Inc., Smyrna, Ga.; President-Elect Nathan Dills, president of ACP Sheet Metal Co. Inc., Oklahoma City, Okla.; Secretary/Treasurer Angela Simon, president of Western Allied Mechanical, Menlo Park, Calif.; Vice President Al LaBella, owner of Blue Diamond Sheet Metal, Medford, N.Y.; and Immediate Past President Joseph R. Lansdell, president of Poynter Sheet Metal Inc., Greenwood, Ind.
Introducing Al LaBella, New SMACNA Vice President
Al LaBella, owner and vice president of Blue Diamond Sheet Metal, Medford, N.Y., was elected to serve as vice president. He served on SMACNA’s Board of Directors from 2011 to 2015.
An active participant in creating the industry’s future, Mr. LaBella has been generating new insights and perspectives on a national level for years. He has been a leader in SMACNA’s legislative, labor-management, residential, light commercial, and best practices arenas.
“I truly believe that SMACNA has been the driving force in my evolution to becoming a successful contractor,” Mr. LaBella said. “As a younger executive and business owner, I am concerned about the industry’s future. My involvement in assisting and developing SMACNA’s young executives program has given me unique insights into the needs and concerns of the next generation of our leaders.”
On the national level, Mr. LaBella currently serves as co-chair of SMACNA’s Political Pacesetters Council, and is on the SMAC PAC Committee, the National Joint Adjustment Board, and is a SFUA Article X management panelist. He serves on the National Residential Contractors Council Steering Committee, Labor Committee, Business and Financial Management Committee, and Director Nominating Committee. He is on the National Energy Management Institute Committee, the SMACNA/SMART Best Practices Market Expansion Task Force, and has worked with the Budget and Finance Committee.
Locally, Mr. LaBella has served as president and on the Board of Directors of SMACNA of Long Island. He was chair of the Residential/Light Commercial Committee and the SMACNA-Long Island Seminar Committee, and was on the Negotiating Committee. He served as a JATC trustee, Joint Adjustment Board panelist, Local Pension, Health and Welfare trustee, and Industry Promotion Fund trustee.
Mr. LaBella began his career in the sheet metal industry in 2001. With Blue Diamond Sheet Metal, he worked with the company’s founder, his father-In-law Robert Lawless, serving as a purchasing agent, estimator, and project manager. Mr. LaBella was instrumental in developing and expanding Blue Diamond’s Light Commercial division. Mr. LaBella is a member of ASHRAE Long Island and SMACNA of New York State.
