Former SMACNA President David Norris, known for his enthusiasm and passion for the sheet metal industry, passed away Monday, August 27. David and his father co-founded DEN Management Company Inc. and Professional Mechanical Contractors Inc., in the Wichita, Kansas area.
David served as SMACNA national president from 1996 to 1997 and was recognized in 2001 as the SMACNA Contractor of the Year for his vision and insight in helping reshape the industry’s joint labor-management training program. He frequently reminded his fellow contractors that “our training program is a jointly sponsored effort and labor and management are both stakeholders.”
After completing his term as SMACNA president, David continued to serve the sheet metal and HVAC industry. He was co-chair of the International Training Institute Board of Trustees, the National Energy Management Institute Committee, and the Sheet Metal Occupational Health Institute Trust and chair of the Local Work Force Investment Board.
He was also very active in his community and served on a number of boards including the Wichita Chamber of Commerce and the YMCA.
