On October 5, you are encouraged to join with SMACNA and a growing network of advocates and observe the third annual National Energy Efficiency Day. Social media handle: #EEDay2018
Energy efficiency is an economic powerhouse that is creating new jobs across the country–jobs that cannot be outsourced abroad. Energy efficiency in the U.S. now sustains 2.25 million jobs in construction, manufacturing, insulation, lighting, heating and cooling, and other areas. The growth has far outpaced other sectors: there are now as many energy efficiency workers as there are waitstaff in bars and restaurants, and nearly twice as many employed in energy efficiency as in law enforcement.
According to the Energy Efficiency Jobs in America report from E2 and E4TheFuture, energy efficiency:
- Employs workers in 3,000 of America’s 3,007 counties (99.7%)
- Employs more than 300,000 in rural areas
- Accounts for more than 1 out of every 6 U.S. construction workers
- Represented half of all energy sector job growth in 2017
