Business Management University (BMU) has consistently been one of SMACNA’s most popular courses and this year was no different as it once again reached full capacity. Held from March 3-7 in Tempe, Arizona, attendees learned through case studies and idea-sharing sessions the exact real-world business skills necessary to run a sheet metal and HVAC company.
Attendee Travis Varner of Intech Mechanical summarized his BMU experience by stating, “as a rookie Project Manager, I feel like BMU has given me good tools to help pave my way to success!”
SMACNA President Nathan Dills also addressed attendees on the first day of BMU. He spoke directly about how he first got involved in the industry, what he has learned along the way, and how SMACNA has been instrumental in his professional career.
These future company leaders were then taught the ins and outs of business management from seven distinguished industry experts. Learning session topics included: business risks and successes, managing change orders, surety issues, financial management, effective negotiations, productivity, practical business planning, time management, and leadership.
Nick Schroeder of Johansen Mechanical, Inc., puts it simply, “if you want to be more successful in your career, come to SMACNA’s BMU.”
