Dodge Data & Analytics Releases Safety Management Report

Feb 13, 2020

Dodge Report Cover 300x370SMACNA partnered with Dodge Data & Analytics on the recently released Safety Management in the Construction Industry 2020 report.

This report examines safety management in the construction industry, including what value contractors gain from investing in safety. Also detailed in the report is the importance of jobsite workers and supervisors to a strong safety management program, top practices used to promote safety, and current trends in training and communication about safety.

Key takeaways include:

  • According to small contractors, regular safety meetings with workers and supervisors was the dominate characteristic of a world-class safety program.

  • The most popular safety policies are site-specific, including site-specific safety and health plans and training front-line supervisors.

  • While most contractors encourage workers to identify and report hazards and “near misses,” far fewer ask workers for input on safety conditions or involve workers in safety planning.

  • Contractors expect to increase online training and emerging technology in the next few years.

  • Contractors overwhelmingly see the ability to contract new work and standing in the industry as important benefits to effective safety practices.
