Catch Up on SMACNA’s Federal Contracting Webinar Series This Summer

In the meantime, contractors who missed one or all of the first three webinars in our series can catch up on them over the summer. Here’s a summary of past webinars with links to the recordings, along with a preview of what’s to come.

Webinar 1: Federal Procurement Overview

In the first Federal Government Contracting webinar, SMACNA members learned how the Federal Government purchases goods and services and gained an understanding of the rules that govern federal purchases.

Webinar 2: Teaming and Joint Venturing in Federal Contracting
(Recorded April 22, 2020)

The second webinar in our five-part series focused on the use of teaming and joint venturing as a strategy to secure government work. SMACNA members benefited by learning how to use proven practices to win contracts, especially if they haven’t done so in the past.

The impact of COVID-19 on the Federal Contracting process were covered as well.

Webinar 3: Small Business Contracting

The third webinar reviewed how a company can take advantage of the opportunities available through new and existing Federal Government Small Business programs. SMACNA members learned about the types of projects currently in progress, as well as the multitude of upcoming projects. Other takeaways included how to successfully gain new contracts and efficiently work through the full contract process.

Details on the impact of the CARES Act and Paycheck Protection Program were also covered.

Webinar 4: Construction Claims Involving the Federal Government

Unfortunately, the construction business is messy. With all the moving parts, claims on projects are sometimes unavoidable. If the construction contract you are performing involves the Federal Government, there are some additional considerations that come into play. This webinar will cover the federal claims process and strategies a company can employ to effectively navigate the system.

Webinar 5: The Federal Protest Process
November 2020 (date and time TBD)

Federal contracts offer benefits and challenges that differ from private contracts, and there may be opportunities for a disappointed bidder to protest the result. This webinar will cover that aforementioned process and the various options a contractor may have, depending upon the type of contracting vehicle the government is using.

Edward DeLisle is an expert in federal contracting, construction law, construction litigation, and small business procurement and litigation. He has drafted and negotiated construction contracts, teaming agreements and joint venture agreements for subcontractors, contractors, developers, and owners. Additionally, Ed was the principal author of the SMACNA Guide to Federal Contracting which was released in 2019 and currently available for free to SMACNA members.
