SMACNA is sorry to inform members that John Lindemulder Sr., of Alsip, Ill., passed away on July 28, 2020. He was 79. Lindemulder was a former SMACNA National President as well as the founder and co-chairman of Amber Mechanical Contractors, Inc. He is survived by his wife, Sandra, and two sons, Keith and John Jr.
A former SMACNA National President from 2009–2010 and a member of the SMACNA Board of Directors from 1993–1997, 2001-2003, and again from 2003-2006, Lindemulder served in many voluntary roles to support the industry he loved, among them as a member of the Convention Sponsorship Task Force, SMAC PAC, the Legislative Committee and the College of Fellows Committee.
He was also chairman and a trustee to the Industry Fund of the United States (IFUS) and served as a trustee to the International Training Institute (ITI).
His capacity to serve did not end at the national level. Lindemulder was an active member of Chicagoland Sheet Metal Contractors Association, serving on the Board of Directors and as chairman of both the Negotiating Committee and the Nominating Committee. He served as chapter president as well as trustee to the local joint apprenticeship committee. He also served on the Finance Committee, the Bylaws Committee and as a chairman of the local arbitration board.
Upon his election to the SMACNA Board of Directors, Lindemulder said, “I believe it is extremely important to give something back to an industry that has given me so much, working to make things better for those who will follow behind me.”
Memorial visitation will be held Friday, July 31, 2020, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Smits Funeral Home, 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane, Dyer, IN. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. at the Smits Funeral Home. Read the full obituary.
