The 2020 Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction is taking place next week, September 14–18. This year’s focus will be on virtual/socially-distanced stand-downs with plenty of opportunities for online engagement.
Each year, more than 200 U.S. construction workers are killed and over 10,000 are seriously injured by falls. Contractors, like all employers, have a responsibility to ensure a safe work environment for their employees. One way to help engage employees in this effort is to participate in the annual Stand-Down, and recommit to your year-round efforts to keep workers safe. Employees play a critical role in maintaining a safe work environment. Start by:
Planning ahead to get the job done safely.
Providing the right equipment.
Training everyone to use the equipment safely.
For information on how to conduct a stand-down, visit OSHA’s Fall Safety page or the CDC’s Stand-Down page, or read the FAQs.
Some additional resources to help you plan your event include:
Start promoting the Safety Stand-Down campaign through email and social media channels (use hashtag #StandDown4Safety to help spread the word) and download posters and other resources to post in your shop or break room.
