Safety Champions Can Help Increase Awareness in Training Centers

The Safety Champion program is an initiative coordinated by the Sheet Metal Occupational Health Institute Trust (SMOHIT) but implemented at the local level. The selected “safety champion” for each training center area will act as a conduit for safety and health initiatives and communication with a goal of improving safety and health awareness and training within the training center system.

The Safety Champion will promote the use of SMOHIT products for safety training, receive and distribute related information from SMOHIT, and generally be the “go to” person for safety and health matters that may affect the training center and area contractors. The proper person for this role may be the center coordinator, an OSHA instructor, a contractor safety manager, or maybe the chapter executive.

The attached information includes a Safety Champion nomination form and SMACNA members are asked to communicate with your chapter executive and affiliated training center to identify the appropriate person to be the Safety Champion for your area. For information on the Safety Champion project, contact Gary Batykefer at SMOHIT at
