Mike Bailey, vice president of sales for Mestek Machinery, was in Cleveland, Ohio last week and paid an informal visit to Tom Martin, President of T. H. Martin Inc.
According to Tom, it is not uncommon for SMACNA Associate Members and top-level Premier Partners to visit one another. As SMACNA-CLE chapter president and SMACNA national board member, Tom has extended an open invitation for SMACNA Premiere Partners to call him and arrange a visit when they are in town. “Associate Members are always welcome because they have so much market and industry knowledge to share,” Tom explained. “These visits are always a learning opportunity for me.”
On Mike’s most recent visit, he and Tom covered a variety of topics including shop layout, prefabrication principals, SMACNA Standards, and the Cleveland/Northeast Ohio market. Much of their discussion however, centered on shop layouts, where Mike put on his consultant’s hat to offer some input and suggestions for Tom to consider. “Mike has a wealth of knowledge and I always benefit from my meetings with him,” Tom said. “Mike was especially interested in learning about our firm’s prefabrication and modularization practices, especially where round duct fabrication was concerned,” Tom noted. “I shared that my company is doing more design-build, design-assist, and integrated project delivery (IPD) these days in both the health care and institutional markets. These delivery methods bode well to prefabrication and modularization which increase fabrication efficiency.”
While touring the shop, Tom and Mike took the opportunity to pose in front of round ductwork being fabricated for the new Lake Health Hospital in Cleveland. T. H. Martin is prefabricating all the round assemblies and round runouts on all four floors of the hospital.
