Total engineering and construction spending for the U.S. is forecast to end up 6 percent in 2018, compared to up 4 percent in 2017.
The FMI U.S. Construction Outlook: Second Quarter 2018 Report indicates continued construction growth. Top performing market segments for the second quarter include transportation (+10%), residential improvements (+9%), and office (+9). Office construction is being driven by corporate relocations, demand for mission-critical facilities, office vacancy rates, and the unemployment rate.
The second quarter shows that several additional market segments are becoming more stable. Commercial and health care which previously were categorized as growth segments in the first quarter have now moved to the stable category.
