has created a new webpage to help employers comply with the agency’s standard on worker exposure to respirable crystalline
silica for construction. Employers are required to protect employees, including assessing workplace exposures, establishing written exposure control plans and providing worker training.
The webpage includes answers to frequently asked questions and provides guidance to employers and employees regarding the standard's
requirements. The page is organized by sections of the standard and consists of a short introductory paragraph for each group of questions and answers, plus offers background about the regulatory requirements.
SMACNA has diligently followed the silica issue and developed a model written program to assist SMACNA members in developing a written silica program that includes compliance. The model program can be edited to meet client and project requirements and is available free to members on the SMACNA safety webpage along with other model programs.
SMACNA members needing further information on silica or the model program should contact Mike McCullion, SMACNA director of market sectors and safety, at 703-994-4027 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
