School Energy Efficiency: Everyone Wins

Feb 27, 2019

students talk-465510267-600x400Once again SMACNA is encouraging Congress to pass legislation that promotes energy efficiency and healthy indoor learning environments.

The Streamlining Energy Efficiency for Schools Act, H.R. 762, would create a one-stop-shop clearinghouse to help schools more easily find available federal programs and financing options for energy efficiency improvements to their facilities. More critical, H.R. 762 does not require additional spending and does not create any new federal programs.

SMACNA commended Rep. Matt Cartwright (D-8-Pa.), and the 28 bipartisan cosponsors in recent correspondence to the entire U.S. House of Representatives, for introducing this valuable and much-needed legislation. “Approximately 14 million students are attending schools that need extensive repair," explained Stanley E. Kolbe Jr., SMACNA director legislative affairs. “Serious problems with school buildings and educational infrastructure are widespread and distributed throughout the nation, and many of these problems involve the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.”

To urge your representative to support this H.R. 762, visit SMACNA’s Advocacy webpage. There you will find a letter explaining SMACNA’s position on this legislation along with prepared correspondence should you wish to contact your member of Congress regarding the matter.  Read more...
