The first annual World Refrigeration Day will be held on June 26, 2019. Industry associations and professional bodies around the world are joining together to raise awareness of the significant role that refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pumps play in modern life and society. The theme for the inaugural event will be diversity in terms of applications, systems, technology, locations, people, and careers.
Supporters include organizations from Africa, Australia, Europe, India, the Middle East, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Thailand, and the United States. The UN Environment-OzonAction joined the partnership in February.
Stephen Gill of the WRD secretariat and immediate past president of the Institute of Refrigeration (IOR), spearheaded the establishment of World Refrigeration Day. He notes, ““Refrigeration has such a long and fascinating history full of inventors, engineering pioneers, scientists, and industrial entrepreneurs from around the world, all of whom deserve to be recognised and remembered for their valuable contribution. With such a long and rich history, agreeing upon a date has proven to be challenging even at a national level, let alone an international one. However, the industry is united in its desire to raise its profile to the general public for all the right reasons and so we were able to build solidarity upon many common goals and finally agree on a date.”
