New Horizons has launched a new white paper, titled Tools for the Hiring, Promotion, and Talent Development of Sheet Metal and Mechanical Contractor Personnel. Research has shown that more than half of the variability (and uncertainty) in hiring and promotion decisions can be reduced by considering factors that are not revealed in typical resumes and interviews.

The New Horizons Foundation, an HVAC and sheet metal industry initiative, has partnered with lead researchers at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and the University of Kansas to produce a white paper entitled Tools for the Hiring, Promotion, and Talent Development of Sheet Metal and Mechanical Contractor Personnel.

This valuable white paper is available for free to SMACNA members and designed to help contractors understand how personality and aptitude assessments can produce successful results in the construction industry. Interviews with SMACNA members and general contractors found that personality and aptitude assessments enhance the hiring process and are also useful in internal talent development.

Additionally, this white paper contains an appendix that includes extensive personality and aptitude assessment resources. It is a must-read for those who are not using assessment tools in their hiring and development practices. Plus, for those that are using aptitude and personality assessment tools, the paper serves as a benchmarking tool against assessments listed in the white paper.

The entire white paper is available to read here.
