SMACNA Launches Redesigned Advocacy Website

Jun 27, 2019

Advocacy 600x373The Advocacy pages on SMACNA.org have been updated to make it easier for SMACNA members and visitors to navigate and find the issues most important to them. The Advocacy home page, located at www.smacna.org/advocacy, features three main sections:

State Issues
This highly interactive map of the United States enables members to select relevant states and see where key issues identified by SMACNA stand in local jurisdictions. Legislative topics covered include:

  • Building Codes Related To Mechanical HVAC
  • Collective Bargaining
  • Contractor Licensing
  • Paid Leave
  • Prevailing Wage
  • Procurement Preferences
  • Project Labor Agreements (Bans/Restrictions)
  • Prompt Pay
  • Right to work
  • Special Request
  • Training/Licensing Requirements
  • Worker Misclassification
  • Workers Compensation (Related To Alternative Dispute Resolution)

Members must be logged in to use the map.  When a state is selected, a summary list shows the current status and enables you to dig deeper into the specific piece of legislation, providing its history, as well an outlook of what’s to come. A variety of interactive tools are visible, but are only for use by SMACNA National staff.

Top Issues
The main federal issues section offers members the ability to search for SMACNA's legislative priorities and position statements by topic and category.

Take Action
SMACNA’s Take Action site gives members the ability to contact their members of Congress. SMACNA members can browse the latest letters and testimonies and modify sample letters to use when contacting their legislator.

Members can keep up to date on SMACNA's involvement in legislative activities and around the country by visiting the SMACNA Advocacy home page. Regular features like Capitol Update and related news are now combined in one easy-to-navigate news area.
