Recently, Dennis O’Brien, President Wm. J. Donovan Co., Philadelphia, PA, addressed the impact misclassification of employees by unethical business owners has on lawful employers at a U.S. House of Representatives staff briefing on the issue of payroll fraud and the willful misclassification of employees as independent contractors.
He was joined on the panel by Laura Padin, Staff Attorney, National Employment Law Project; Jose Rodriguez, a misclassified truck driver out of San Diego, CA; and Marie Serrano, International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craft Workers Local 1.
Wm. J. Donovan Co. recently celebrated their 100th year of HVAC and specialty sheet metal services in 2013 and was invited to appear by the Workforce Protections Subcommittee of Education and Workforce.
Donovan focuses primarily on highly technical and ever-evolving industries, including pharmaceuticals, healthcare, research and higher education. He also serves as president of the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association of Pennsylvania and as a trustee of Sheet Metal Workers Local Union Number 19 Funds.
