“We are here to achieve two simple goals,” said SMACNA president Angie Simon, “Be as successful as possible, together as one unified front; and as competitive as possible as businesses.” Leaders from labor and management took note and went “ALL IN” at the recent Partners in Progress Conference, held February 25-26 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada. More than 500 representatives from SMACNA and SMART came together to demonstrate their commitment to the future of the industry.
SMART General President Joseph Sellers, Jr. and Simon offered a roadmap to success, noting that there are several challenges along the way. Successful partnerships depend on communications and building great relationships, understanding the industry, identifying areas of shared interest, becoming the best leaders, and being able to assess and adapt to change.
Contractors, chapter executives, and future leaders experienced two days of educational sessions focused on helping them succeed. Expert speakers like Stephane McShane, Brent Darnell and Tauhira Ali spoke on leadership, teambuilding, mentorship, innovation, new technologies, safety trends, mental health awareness, and the latest legislative issues.
Closing on the theme of going “ALL IN,” Herm Edwards, former NFL head coach and current head coach at Arizona State University, offered his energetic take on leadership and teambuilding. “If you hope to lead, you must learn to serve,” said Edwards.
