PHOENIX — Kevin O’Dorisio, executive director of the SMACNA Southern California chapter, received the Petersen-Dunn Award as Chapter Executive of the Year at the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association’s (SMACNA) 73rd Annual Convention.
The award is presented annually to the SMACNA chapter executive who has made a substantive contribution to their local association and to SMACNA.
“Two neighboring SMACNA chapters, SMACNA - Los Angeles and Orange Empire SMACNA, called on Kevin’s expertise and collaborative skills to merge them into one cohesive organization earlier this year,” SMACNA President Guy Gast announced. “The result is the second-largest chapter in SMACNA.”
“Admittedly mergers can be chaotic,” Gast said. “However, Kevin, found the middle ground that would make the merger a reality and skillfully led a collaborative effort on all fronts. Thanks to his expertise, the members of this new SMACNA chapter, SMACNA Southern California, are the benefactors of a stronger more united group as a result of his unselfish efforts. And most notably, all of this was accomplished in an incredibly short time frame.”
O’Dorisio began his SMACNA career as a field rep for the SMACNA - Los Angeles Chapter in 1977. In 1985, he took over the job of executive director, replacing the retiring executive director. Twenty-five years ago he received this same Petersen-Dunn Award as Chapter Executive of the Year—for increasing local member involvement that subsequently increased national involvement.
O’Dorisio attended the University of California at Berkeley. He and his wife, Patti, have three daughters and reside in Irvine, Calif.
SMACNA, an international trade association representing 3,500 contributing contractor firms, is a leader in promoting quality and excellence in the sheet metal and air conditioning industry. SMACNA has national offices in Chantilly, Va., outside of Washington, D.C., and on Capitol Hill. Visit www.smacna.org.
