Larry Sturgis of New York Receives SMACNA’s Career Legislative Service Award

PHOENIX — Larry Sturgis, chapter executive of the SMACNA Southeastern New York Chapter of SMACNA, Elmsford, N.Y., was recognized with the Career Legislative Service Award at the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association’s (SMACNA) 73rd Annual Convention.

“The Career Legislative Service Award is one of the highest legislative honors a contractor or chapter executive may earn within the organization,” announced 2016 SMACNA President Guy Gast.

This award recognizes Sturgis as a long-standing, dedicated legislative and political activist during his two decades as SMACNA’s Southeastern New York executive vice president. From the first year Larry became the chapter executive of the SMACNA Southeastern New York chapter, he quickly moved to support the association members at every level.

Sturgis is a two-decade supporter of SMACNA’s political action committee, SMAC PAC, and has demonstrated political engagement on all levels earning the respect and admiration of SMACNA members and fellow chapter executives across the industry. 

“An active member of the SMACNA College of Fellows, the Labor Management Partnership, the Chapter Executives’ Institute, and the Council of Chapter Representatives, Larry has been a high-energy, industry standout. He has made it a priority to strengthen his association and his industry through legislative and political action. His unwavering support and active involvement have proven invaluable to our industry. Larry has been a generous supporter of the College of Fellows, its fundraising efforts, and of SMAC PAC with nearly 20 years of consistent membership in the Congressional Insiders Club (CIC),” Gast explained.

“Larry has inspired those around him to political, legislative, and civic action,” Gast added. “His legislative and political activities have been valued within SMACNA and praised across the New York State HVAC industry, especially Southeastern New York.  on key contractor issues,” Gast noted.

“Larry has been an engaged and outspoken advocate of political involvement for SMACNA’s interests on a wide variety of policy areas. Larry’s career has been a benefit to SMACNA on many levels and this award represents our appreciation for his good work.”

SMACNA, an international trade association representing 3,500 contributing contractor firms, is dedicated to promoting quality and excellence in the sheet metal and air conditioning industry. SMACNA has national offices in Chantilly, Va., outside of Washington, D.C., as well as on Capitol Hill.
