MAUI, HAWAII — Randy Buchter, president of Anron, Inc., North Babylon, N.Y., was recognized as the Contractor Legislative Advocate of the Year at the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association’s (SMACNA) 74th Annual Convention.
SMACNA’s Contractor Legislative Advocate of the Year Award is the highest legislative honor a contractor may earn within our organization.
“When we looked around the nation and considered all of SMACNA’s legislative, political and industry leaders that have made SMACNA’s top advocates honor roll, Randy Buchter immediately came to mind as the one creating a visible role for local and national SMACNA,” 2017 SMACNA President Joseph Lansdell said.
“A driving force in the SMACNA of Long Island chapter’s effort to lead on national, state, and local political and legislative issues, Randy has targeted areas important to the Long Island area and New York state. He has been a key player in efforts to reform public contracting payment, pension reform, infrastructure policies, and prevailing wage enforcement legislation from Long Island to Albany to Capitol Hill. A champion for apprenticeship training, workforce enhancement, and safety education, Randy is a strong advocate for tax initiatives boosting industrial, commercial, and institutional energy retrofits.
“For such positive contributions, it makes us proud to present a Waterford crystal bowl to Randy as this year’s Legislative Contractor of the Year,” Lansdell announced.
Buchter is a highly respected representative of SMACNA’s Long Island Chapter, serving as president. In addition, he is an active member of the SMACNA of New York State organization attending various legislative meetings across the state, plus national conventions. He is a spokesperson at industry forums of importance to SMACNA and HVAC firms across the nation.
Buchter maintains positive relationships with members of Congress and their staff, providing them with important information and industry issue educational materials before votes are cast.
He has promoted the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Political Action Committee’s (SMAC PAC) fund-raising efforts within his chapter to help them reach the Top Ten Fundraising Chapter status. As one of SMAC PAC’s Political Pacesetters, our highest donor club, Randy and wife Jennifer have set a positive advocacy example as contributors to SMAC PAC for many years.
This award is given to contractors annually in recognition of exceptional effort and unsurpassed leadership in legislative and political action on behalf of their company, their association and their industry. Their activism makes a difference in SMACNA’s national lobbying efforts, as well as challenges all SMACNA and industry members to match their level of commitment.
SMACNA, an international trade association representing 3,500 contributing contractor firms, is dedicated to promoting quality and excellence in the sheet metal and air conditioning industry. SMACNA has national offices in Chantilly, Va., outside of Washington, D.C., as well as on Capitol Hill. Visit www.smacna.org for more information.
