MAUI, HAWAII — Jack Knox, president of R.F. Knox Co. Inc., Smyrna, Ga., was elected by the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association’s (SMACNA) Board of Directors to serve as president. His year-long term in office began Oct. 25 at the close of SMACNA’s 74th Annual Convention.
“SMACNA’s board recently approved a new strategic plan that encompasses several important industry initiatives,” Knox said. “We need to address human resource issues facing the industry—in both the craft and non-craft areas. We must help position the industry to attract more quality people into our companies and local unions.”
A versatile and active participant in industry issues, Knox served on SMACNA’s Board of Directors from 2009 to 2014. He currently serves as a Sheet Metal Workers’ National Supplemental Savings Fund Trustee and a Sheet Metal Industry Labor Management Cooperation Fund trustee.
An advocate for positive legislative change, he has been a longtime member of the SMAC PAC and Legislative Committees. He has been a member of SMAC PAC donor clubs for almost 20 years and currently serves as co-chair of SMAC PAC’s top donor club, the Political Pacesetters Council. He also serves on the Investment Committee.
Knox has served as chair of the SMACNA Employees’ Pension Plan Trustees, as a SMACN-IFUS trustee, and as chair of the Budget and Finance Committee. He was on the Business and Financial Management and Director Nominating Committees, an officer liaison to the Products and Programs Coordinating and Technical Resources Committees, and served on the Blue Book Sheet Metal and HVAC Equipment Task Force.
Active in the Georgia-SMACNA chapter, he served as his chapter’s president, vice-president, secretary-treasurer, and on the board of directors. He was on the Legislative, Negotiating,
Education, and Joint Labor/Management Committees and a trustee of the Local Industry Fund and Local Pension Plan.
The fourth generation to run his family business R.F. Knox Co. Inc., Knox grew up working in his father, Fred Knox’s, sheet metal shop. He officially entered the industry as an estimator, two days after graduating from Auburn University. When his father retired in 2007, Knox became president of the 103-year-old firm.
Knox is also on the board of directors of Blue Skies Ministries and is president of Mt. Paran Christian School Athletic Booster Club.
Many R.F. Knox Co. Inc. projects dot the Atlanta skyline, from the Peachtree Plaza skyscraper and Georgia Dome to the Georgia State Capitol and Mercedes-Benz Stadium, home of the Atlanta Falcons.
