Managing Risks: NEMI's HVAC Fire Life Safety Program

Today’s National Model Building Codes, including the International Fire Code (“IFC”), which has been adopted in 43 states, incorporates NFPA standards 80 and 105, which require smoke and fire dampers to be inspected 1 year after installation.

The frequency thereafter is required to be every 4 years, except in hospitals where inspections are required every 6 years. Unfortunately, there are very few building owners or managers doing this.
