CPWR Offers Free Safety and Health Resources
SMACNA’s Safety Department has been a long standing supporter of the efforts of the Center for Construction Research and Training (CPWR – formerly the Center for Protection of Workers Rights). SMACNA has been involved in various research projects conducted and administered by CPWR, in cooperation with the North America’s Building Trades Safety Committee.
CPWR produces an annual report, called Highlights, which showcases important discoveries, achievements, and activities within a year. The 2015 Highlights: Mission to Serve was just released. In it you can find information on CPWR funded research projects, workers reached through dissemination, training, and service efforts, and the impacts on the construction industry over the last year. In particular, SMACNA members may be interested in the work CPWR has conducted related to issues such as Hand Safety, Prevention Through Design, Building Information Modeling, Silica, and Fall Prevention. Three very helpful CPWR websites are elcosh.org; constructionsolutions.org, and silica-safe.org. Each of these websites offer a variety of safety and health hazard abatement tools.
If you have any questions on these research projects and websites, contact Mike McCullion, SMACNA director of market sectors and safety, at firstname.lastname@example.org or 703-995-4027.
