2016 Convention Session Explores the Benefits of Prefabrication

To stay competitive in today's market, contractors must stop thinking about prefabrication as a custom, once in a lifetime job and start thinking like a manufacturer where standard products are built for installation.

Today, best-in-class contractors are bringing 50 to 60 percent of their field labor into the prefabrication process.

At the 2016 Annual SMACNA Convention, Michael McLin, of Maxim Consulting Group, discussed Lean best practices in the construction industry, the importance of design standardization, linking estimating to detailing to prefabrication to field installation, and logistics. If higher margins are of interest, he covered inventory management ideas to enhance cost reduction.
