Senate Shortens August Recess
Planning to meet with your members of Congress at home this summer? Better confirm your appointment. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell told his fellow senators they should expect to be in session most of the month of August.
He cited the need to pass appropriations bills before the September 30 deadline to avoid another “omnibus” spending bill and the need to make progress on presidential nominees.
Speculation remains about whether the House will follow suit. All 435 House members are up for re-election in November while only 35 Senators are up for re-election, and 26 seats are held by Democrats, with many of those listed as toss-up races.
So, if you were planning to visit with members of your congressional delegation or to attend town hall meetings, then your only opportunity may be the first week of August. Read the article...
