SMAC PAC Hosts Maryland U.S. Senator’s Reelection Fundraising Event
“It’s always great when you can help a longtime ally,” said SMACNA Mid-Atlantic Chapter Executive Director Bernie Brill, regarding a recent breakfast fundraiser SMAC PAC hosted for Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md.).
Sen. Cardin is no stranger to the sheet metal industry and especially the Mid-Atlantic Chapter. “He has visited SMACNA members’ shops and welcomed SMACNA members and staff into his office on numerous occasions while serving in the U.S. House of Representatives and more recently in the U.S. Senate to discuss pension reform as it relates to multiemployer plans and other important legislative matters,” Mr. Brill explained. “He clearly understands the importance of the needed changes to these plans to make them more secure for future retirees as well as the threat of unfunded liabilities to business owners.”
SMACNA’s Director of Political and Legislative Affairs Stan Kolbe, who attended the event, praised Sen. Cardin for being a champion for infrastructure including tax incentives for energy efficiency, 179 expensing, 179D, commercial building retrofit tax incentives for high efficiency upgrades, school construction, public building construction, Davis Bacon and project labor agreements.
Sen. Cardin has a solid grasp of the many issues of interest to SMACNA members, Mr. Brill noted. Whether it is pension reform, investing the country’s infrastructure, or finding career opportunities for today’s youth, the senator is highly knowledgeable and insightful on all key issues.
