Federal Contractors Must Provide Paid Sick Leave
Three federal agencies recently adopted as final, without change, an interim rule amending the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) to implement the executive order “Establishing Paid Sick Leave for Federal Contractors.”
As of August 22, 2018, those agencies include the Department of Defense, General Services Administration, and National Aeronautics and Space Administration. The interim rule also implemented a final rule issued by the Department of Labor. Under the final rule, an employee working on a federal project now earns one hour of sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to seven days per year.
To assist members in complying with this rule, SMACNA prepared “Understanding the DOL’s Rules on Paid Sick Leave for Federal Contractors” available on SMACNA’s labor relations webpage.
