Long Island and SMAC PAC Turn Out for a Friend
SMACNA of Long Island members Al and Kathy Sapio of Arlan Damper, John and Melinda Hauser of Eastern Metalworks, and Long Island SMACNA Chapter Executive Melissa Barbour attended a fundraiser for Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-1st-N.Y.). SMAC PAC and the Long Island chapter supported Rep. Zeldin in his early political career and are continuing to do so by cosponsoring this fundraiser as he seeks his third term in Congress.
The August 21 event gave Ms. Barbour the opportunity to request the congressman’s support of H.R. 4997, the Grow Act, that would facilitate a new plan design for multiemployer pension plans. Over the years Rep. Zeldin has supported the sheet metal and HVAC industry by co-sponsoring H.R. 1090, the Power Efficiency and Resiliency Act (POWER), supporting Davis-Bacon, and voting against an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act which would have changed the way prevailing wages are calculated.
Rep. Peter King (R-2nd-N.Y.), a longtime friend of SMACNA, attended the event in support of Rep. Zeldin which gave Ms. Barbour and Mr. Sapio the opportunity to share information about the business climate on Long Island and to hear his insider’s take on the upcoming congressional elections and redistricting.
