SMACNA Appoints Industry Veteran Angie Simon as New Board President

SMACNA announced that Angie Simon of Western Allied Mechanical has been elected by the Board of Directors to serve as president.

Austin, Texas — October 23, 2019 — The Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association (SMACNA), the leader in promoting quality and excellence in the sheet metal and air conditioning industry, announced that Angie Simon of Western Allied Mechanical has been elected by the Board of Directors to serve as president. Simon’s year-long term in office began at the close of SMACNA’s Annual Convention on October 23.

Simon is the first female to serve in the position and the first woman among all signatory associations to be elected to this role. She brings more than three decades of industry experience to the position. Simon has spent the majority of her career at Western Allied Mechanical, a union mechanical contracting firm that employs more than 220 people. She first joined the company in 1987 as a project manager, just a year after graduating from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo with a degree in mechanical engineering. In 1995, she became a partner at the firm, and in 2008 was named president. Under her leadership, the company has grown its annual revenue from $60 million to more than $100 million.

“Angie has been a trailblazer since she started in the industry more than thirty years ago,” said Vincent Sandusky, SMACNA’s CEO. “From studying at Cal Poly during the early 1980’s, when the School of Engineering was 98 percent male, to serving as the first woman on SMACNA’s National Board, and the first female president of SMACNA’s Bay Area chapter, she’s broken barriers and created pathways for a more diverse and inclusive industry workforce.”

Sandusky added, “Angie has also served as a mentor to countless individuals in our industry, male and female, throughout her distinguished career. We are fortunate to have someone with such vast knowledge and admirable work ethic leading our association and our industry into the next decade.”

“Angie has been involved with SMACNA for many years, serving in volunteer positions at all levels in addition to her executive committee positions, including serving as co-chair of the SMACNA Women in Construction leadership council and vice-chair of the New Horizon’s foundation,” said Nathan Dills, Immediate Past President of SMACNA. “She brings a highly-valued perspective to the table, both as president of a very successful contracting firm and a woman that has spent her career working in the trades.”

Simon is a registered Professional Mechanical Engineer. She resides in the San Francisco Bay Area of California with her husband Michael and two sons.
