SMACNA has named Dr. Anirban Basu its Chief Economist, bringing one of the most highly regarded strategic analysts to provide SMACNA members with economic insights and forecasts about the economy and its impact on construction. Dr. Basu has participated in several SMACNA presentations, including at the most recent Partners in Progress Meeting in Las Vegas, NV.
As SMACNA’s Chief Economist, Dr. Basu will be featured across several of SMACNA’s platforms, including its Let’s Talk Shop podcast (Dr. Basu will be featured in late November). Dr. Basu will also brief SMACNA’s Board of Directors on emerging industry issues at the January Board Meeting, and a synopsis will be shared with membership shortly after the Board meeting. Additionally, there will be a webinar and a general session at SMACNA’s annual convention.
Dr. Basu is Chairman & CEO of Sage Policy Group, Inc., an economic and policy consulting firm headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland. The firm provides strategic analytical services to energy suppliers, law firms, medical systems, government agencies, and real estate developers.
In 2014, Maryland Governor Larry Hogan appointed him Chair of the Maryland Economic Development Commission (2014-2021). He serves as Chairman of the Baltimore County Economic Advisory Committee. In addition to serving as SMACNA’s Chief Economist, Dr. Basu advises several other organizations, including the Construction Financial Management Association, the Modular Building Institute, and the Maryland Bankers Association.
He has taught at several universities, most frequently at Johns Hopkins University. He currently teaches History of Economic Thought at Goucher College as their Distinguished Economist in Residence.
