SMACNA members, vendors, and guests came together at the 2022 edition of SMACNA’s Annual Convention, held at the gorgeous Broadmoor resort in Colorado Springs, CO.
This convention, which represented a return to the pre-pandemic format, allowed attendees to learn more about the technologies and trends influencing the industry, support SMACNA’s political efforts, recognize distinguished members, and conduct critical organizational business.
The event started with the College of Fellows Golf Tournament, played on the Broadmoor’s sprawling and magnificent golf course. The course will host several future PGA events, including the 2024 Senior PGA Open.
Monday was highlighted by the Keynote Presentation and Awards Lunch, where awards including Chapter Executive of the Year (Nathan Cooper) and Contractor of the Year (John Knox) were presented. Comedian Frank Caliendo served as the keynote speaker for the event doing excellent interpretations of Morgan Freeman, President Joe Biden, and Former President Donald Trump.
Monday night was PAC night with the Pactoberfest theme, where members could provide financial support to SMACNA’s political activities and have a great time. Considering the recent legislative successes of the CHIPS Act and the Inflation Reduction Act, building a robust political war chest is more important than ever.
Tuesday’s SMACNA Product Show brought together vendors, including SMACNA’s Premier Partners, to display their latest product offerings to attendees Exhibitor Presentations on emerging technologies also were a featured part of the program. Cybersecurity Expert Nick Espinosa was the featured speaker during the annual spouses breakfast. In addition, members had the chance to attend several breakout sessions on critical topics such as leadership development, tax law, and physical and mental wellness.
Wednesday brought the proceedings to a close with a slate of proceedings, including the Annual Business Meeting, where several safety awards were presented, and outgoing board members were recognized for their service. Branding and Marketing Expert Gerry O’Brion served as the keynote speaker for the event.
Members had the opportunity to discuss labor issues at the Labor Forum, which featured SMART General President Joseph Sellers. Members then proceeded to the President’s Lunch, where the newest SMACNA College of Fellows members were recognized and inducted.
The event ended with the Dinner and Show, highlighted by a performance from Billy Joel Tribute Band Big Shot.
