President Biden has nominated Julie Su as Secretary of Labor, replacing Marty Walsh, who is departing to become the Executive Director of the National Hockey League Players Association. Since being confirmed by the United States Senate in July 2021, Su has served as the Deputy Secretary of Labor.
Before entering federal service, Su served as the Labor Secretary for California. She focused on building collaborative relationships between labor and business owners during her time in that role. Su initially entered government service as the California Labor Commissioner, launching initiatives to combat wage theft. She started her career as a labor civil rights attorney, where she helped combat the trafficking and forced labor of migrant workers.
