SMACNA National Vice President Tom Martin recently attended a fundraiser for Congresswoman Shantel Brown (D-OH) at University Square, east of downtown Cleveland, OH. Congresswoman Brown entered Congress in 2021, succeeding Marcia Fudge. The latter left Congress to become Secretary of Housing and Urban Development for President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. During her brief tenure in the House, Congresswoman Brown has already become a strong advocate for the skilled trades and union labor.

SMACNA contractors have taken part in several projects in her district, including work on the Sherwin Williams headquarters complex and the MetroHealth campus. Ironically, within eyeshot of the event venue was a University Circle apartment complex currently under construction where SMACNA member firms (including Martin’s own T.H. Martin, Inc.) are participating in several aspects of the project.
