In 2019, SMACNA started the Safety Innovation Award program to recognize the creative and unique ideas SMACNA members use to improve safety excellence within their own workplace.
W. Soule Company of Portage, Michigan has been named the winner of the 2022 Safety Innovation Award. W. Soule’s implementation of a highly interactive safety committee committed to delivering new solutions to safety challenges. One of these initiatives included the use of a new text service system called “Crew Minders” as an interactive means of improving overall company safety. These efforts resulted in cutting both their Lost-Time Incident Rate and Auto Incidents by half.
Don Jackson, VP, Risk Management for W. Soule talked about the importance of of this award for his company: “Being recognized for this award is a tremendous achievement for W. Soule. It’s is not only a testament to the efforts of our Safety Department, but it also reflects the dedication of our trades men and women in making safety a priority every day. In addition, providing financial support to an important charity in our local community will certainly strengthen their ability to serve.”
SMACNA Premier Partners Milwaukee Tool and Federated Insurance Company sponsored the safety awards, and have each donated $2,500 each to the Portage Public Safety Foundation at the bequest of W. Soule Company.
