SMACNA partners with a number of influential organizations supporting, servicing and helping SMACNA provide guidance and information to the signatory sheet metal and HVAC industry. These leading organizations work with SMACNA to keep SMACNA members informed and highly competitive in the marketplace. 

SMACNA Testing & Research Institute

Created to educate and assure architects, engineers and building owners as well as the general public that all sheet metal products are manufactured and/or constructed to perform to credible industry standards, while also being dedicated to introducing and/or transferring new technology from the research phase to real world circumstances. The Institute applies new technologies to existing standards to promote a continuing commitment to quality construction.

SMART

A dynamic and diverse union with 203,000 members that consists of sheet metal workers, service technicians, bus operators, engineers, conductors, sign workers, welders, production employees and more. SMART members ensure the quality of the air we breathe, promote energy efficiency, produce and provide the vital services that move products to market and passengers to their destinations.

New Horizons Foundation

New Horizons Foundation is the knowledge link for industry members, suppliers, contracting industry partners, colleges and universities, other national and international trade associations, and customers. NHF continuously works to create a state of the art work environment populated with effective managers, qualified supervisors, and skilled workers by building key relationships with allied industry partners and academic institutions, providing education and information that will position HVAC and sheet metal contractors as positive, knowledgeable, participants in the construction process, and encourage career participation in the HVAC and sheet metal industry.

Partners in Progress

A joint venture between SMACNA contractors and SMART members that reinforces the mutual goal of delivering quality workmanship for sheet metal applications and heating ventilating and air conditioning systems—using accepted industry standards—performed in a productive, efficient, and environmentally conscious manner.

International Training Institute

Jointly sponsored by SMACNA and SMART, ITI supports apprenticeship and advanced career training for union workers in the sheet metal industry throughout the United States and Canada. ITI produces a standardized curriculum supported by a wide variety of training materials free of charge to apprentices and journey-level workers.

Testing, Adjusting and Balancing Bureau

TABB is an organization made up of top heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration professionals that has set the certification standards for the HVAC industry since 1981. As the first and only HVAC testing, adjusting and balancing certification program accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), TABB-certified professionals are recognized as the most competent, reliable and qualified in the HVAC industry.

National Energy Management Institute

A not-for-profit organization jointly funded and managed by SMACNA and SMART that provides valued education of emerging markets, new technology and advances in manufacturing and construction processes in the sheet metal industry. NEMI also provides supervisory level training for Testing Adjusting and Balancing (TAB), Fire Smoke Damper (FSD) testing, Smoke Control Systems (SCS) Testing, Indoor Air Quality (IAQ), Sound and Vibration (SV) testing, and Mechanical Acceptance testing.

Sheet Metal Occupational Health Institute Trust

Serving the members of SMART and the contractors of SMACNA, SMOHIT addresses the impact of decades-long asbestos exposure on those working in the sheet metal industry, while simultaneously providing industry-leading health and safety solutions to minimize occupational illnesses and injuries for sheet metal craftsmen. SMOHIT is the industry’s leading resource for health and safety products and services.
