Do You Know Your Company’s Prior Approval Status?

Federal Election Law requires SMACNA’s Political Action Committee (SMACPAC) have a signed PA on file before informing you about political events and activities.

As you may know, SMACNA has been working hard to increase the number of members with active Prior Approvals (PA) on file. Federal Election Law requires SMACNA’s Political Action Committee (SMACPAC) to have a signed PA on file before informing you about political events and activities, such as participation in the upcoming PAC Virtual Raffle and Convention Wine & Whiskey Walls.

The reason for requiring a signature from our membership is unclear and unique to trade associations. We are advocating for a change in the law; until then, we are asking our members to sign the PA form, authorizing it for up to ten years.  The form can be signed by any individual in the company who is authorized to grant participation authorization, such as an owner, president, vice president, senior executive officer (CEO, COO, etc.), or anyone designated to represent the company at SMACNA meetings.

Unsure about your company’s PA status? Reach out to the SMACNA Government Affairs staff at smacpac@smacna.org or call 202-547-8202 for assistance!
