You don’t need a big budget to leverage video content for your chapter and its members, just a few critical tips.
Most of us are aware of the value of video in storytelling. Unlike other media, video allows you to share people’s voices and set the scene in ways that photos or text simply cannot match.
Now, when we see video content, it often appears to be the result of a large, expensive production team, both in front of and behind the camera. However, believe it or not, your smartphone, whether it be an iPhone or comparable Android device, has emerged as a game-changer in the video creation space. With a couple of setting changes, you can turn your smart device into a top-of-the-line recording device that rivals more expensive and more elaborate tools. Apple has made it a strategy to showcase content filmed exclusively on a mobile device, including music videos from popular artists.
Even though some videos use extra lighting and setup, you can still use simple tools to turn your phone into a portable studio. Wistia Studios recently shared a straightforward video guide on making your iPhone your go-to tool for capturing content.
In addition to adjusting your phone’s settings, you can also add a few simple tools to enhance your videos.
For example, an iPhone tripod helps you keep your shots steady, whether you’re filming interviews or scenic footage. There are numerous options available at varying prices, allowing you to select the one that best suits your needs and budget.
Also, a lavalier microphone is a big game-changer. While the iPhone mic and speaker are still powerful, there is still that inevitable background sound that will prove difficult to edit out during post-production. If you upgrade your microphone setup, the quality of your audio will also increase significantly. Luckily, just like the tripods, there are plenty of options depending on the resources you wish to devote.
However, capturing the content is only one step. Putting it together in a cohesive final product is the next step, which we will cover in the next edition of Chapter Leadership!
